Helen Elliott Hamilton won two Ladies World Doubles championship during a glittering table tennis career. When she won her first title in 1949, she and her Hungarian partner Gizi Farkas started as favourites. But her second win a year later – with a new partner, the Englishwoman Dora Beregi – was wholly against the odds. Hamilton won 13 consecutive Scottish National Open Singles titles, as well as being the International Open Singles Champion of Ireland, Wales, Germany and Belgium. After retiring from the sport, she then spent many years developing the game in Scotland, and served in many national and international Table Tennis organisations.
